I have more than 200 gmail files in my archives and want to sort them by category, i.e., all the family files into a 'Family' folder, work, reading group, church, etc. How do I create category folders and, more important, how do I move the files I have into those folders? I know that when creating new folders gmail asks if you want to make the new file a sub-file of an existing file; how do I create category and sub-files with already existing files?

I figured it out myself, hurrah!

Clicking on the drop down arrow to the right of every file reveals an 'edit' tab that allows you to both change the label name and to "nest the label under" another file.

It took the better part of the day, but I have sorted 273 files into 22 subject folders or "nests." Much more useful, for filing and searching!
