I accidentally deleted one of most visited site and now I want it back. I have tried opening it multiple times but it does not show. Funny thing, I opened msn.com only one or twice and it started showing under it.

Please note that I have cleared all cookies and history and restarted Chrome many times :(

  • Hmm. You might try dragging the page icon to Apps' page of New Tab (the arrows on edges or bottom link next to Popular) and retry.
    I sadly think it's not so easy to get it back, so you might want to try using an extension instead. (link 1 link 2)

    Yes, you can do workaround as said by robotkoer which will let you add any site to apps. Here is complete tutorial - Pin Any Site to Chrome Apps New Tab

    or you can use this wonderful speed dial extension as suggested above. (recommended)

    or go to this location -
    %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Preferences
    Open the file in any text editor (notepad) and search for something like this -
    "ntp": {
    "pinned_urls": {
    "http://www.google.com/": 0,
    "http://mail.google.com/": 1,
    "http://www.gtricks.com/": 2
    },
    They are the pinned ones. Edit it in similar format.

    Restart your chrome and you will have all the sites that you ever wanted in most visited section.
  • the above answer gave me a clue to fix the issue on mine. on my win7 machine i went to c:\users\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default and found the "Top Sites" and "Top Sites-Journal" files and found a url in there that i didn't want in my most visited list and replaced it with the one that i'd accidentally deleted. restarted chrome and visited the site a couple of times and it showed up.

    so then i wanted an easier way to fix this problem so i just deleted both of those files, started chrome and entered the sites that i want in my most visited and they all showed up instantly. it recreates those files when doing this.

    good luck!
